Nasser Asgary: What you can do for the revolution in Iran

It has been more than a week since people stormed the streets en masse, shouting slogans against 40 years of corruption, repression and poverty. They have come out to challenge 40 years of enslavement of women. The street protests started with demands against poverty, unemployment, unbearable cost of living, embezzlement, and repression.

These protests will greatly benefit from support it can receive from Marxists, socialists, feminists, the trade unionists, atheists and all those who have challenged the status quo in one way or another for many generations. Its gains would be mutual to the activists in all over the world who have been waiting for a change! The defeat of Islamists in Iran would most likely put an end to barbarism that Trump and ISIS like politics have been representing for some time now. So, what can you do to help the protests that have begun strongly in Iran?

Protesters have given their verdict: Islamic regime must go! I have no doubt that will happen; but those that have challenged this regime to its core, and have issued this verdict, will need any and all the support they can get from you.

But what can one do to support it? The very first thing one can do to support them is to participate in solidarity protests that are being organized in major cities all over Western countries. Political parties, trade unions and other organizations can and should send solidarity messages to them. You can increase the pressure by keeping your audience updated. The Islamic regime has already started mass arrests. You can demand release of those that are arrested. Many protesters have been shot to death already. You can condemn the killing and demand those responsible for these killings to be put on trail for murder. You can demand your governments to cut all political, economical and diplomatic ties with the Islamic regime and to shut down Islamic regime’s embassies in countries where you live. These are the very basic help anyone can offer to a very decisive battle in the streets of Iran.

The REVOLUTION has begun! Long live the REVOLUTION!
